In my early work I used flowers and other materials quite often in conjunction with the figurative form. These pieces were quite beautiful and dark at the same time. I think in reflection the flowers both represented a metaphysical blooming and simultaneous death. The birth of one state of being meant the death of another. As I’m approaching a new chapter in my life the same references keep appearing in my thought process so I’ve started a new series of work with the same idea I mind but with a slightly different approach. I guess this last two months of quarantine have given me time to really process and reflect on past work and trying to bring all the iconography and materials together to try establish a new means of working and reading into the work.
